Pan Pacific Masters Games

Sunday, May 16th, 2010

The Pan Pacific Masters Games is an international sporting event held on the Gold Coast at the beginning of November every two years and held again in 2010.

Around 10,000 participants from all over the world compete in the multi-sport competition, which runs for one week at various venues across the city. Last time , 34 sports were on the games program including team events such as softball, touch football, soccer, basketball and baseball and individual sports ranging from swimming and athletics, to tennis and archery.

The Master Games is a mature-age event, with no qualifying standards or times required to enter. The only criteria is that entrants meet the minimum age requirement for their respective sport, which is 30 years of age for most and one of the best locations to stay at is Main Beach.  Ideal Beach front accommodation is Oscar On Main Beach Resort.  Close to all bus routes, shops, restaurants, and a very short drive to all locations as it’s situated in the Hub of Main Beach.

Mainbeach makes a handy base for those keen on the social side of the games, with the opening ceremony, nightly entertainment and closing party, safe and quiet location.

The Pan Pacific Masters Games first began on the Gold Coast in 1996 and was called the Queensland Masters Games, it changed in 1998 to the Asia Pacific Masters Games which were held three more times on the Gold Coast. The event was renamed the Pan Pacific Masters Games in 2002 to reflect growing interest from Asia, Japan, the Americas, Oceania and New Zealand.

As well as the sporting events, the games have a week-long calendar of social events for competitors held within an official Games Village.

With the growing number of national teams on the Gold Coast, Queensland Events expect the profile of the Pan Pacific Masters Games to grow further in 2010.
