Spring has sprung – the best entertainment venues in town

As the weather continues to rise on our sandy shores, so too does the entertainment factor!
The onset of Spring marks the start of the racing, beach and festive seasons, so if you are bound for the Gold Coast over the coming months, be prepared for plenty of high quality fun!

Live music destinations

One of the simplest (and best) ways to immerse yourself in the Gold Coast’s casual, coastal lifestyle is to enjoy locally produced fare while listening to home-grown talent. The beachy lifestyle has inspired countless bands, roots, hip hop, funk and soul artists, which a large number of our bars and hotels and proud to showcase.

Friday and Saturday nights at the Miami Marketta are a great place to start if you love to combine great food with a vibrant atmosphere and quality live acts. With a huge range of global street food, cold beer and fresh cocktails, this family-friendly destination offers an array of genres and acts, so there is something for everyone.
Helensvale hotspot NightQuarter is a lively hive of converted shipping containers comprising everything from crafty market stalls to micro restaurants; all set around a unique live music space known as “The Paddock”. If you like more of a pub atmosphere, the Surfers Paradise Beergarden is renowned as the home of live music from Thursday to Sunday and welcomes a fabulous range of local, national and international acts.
The Coolangatta Hotel boasts a prime, beachfront location and if you are looking to join a crowd for a gig, the Cooly Bandroom can welcome as many as 1000 guests per show!
At the opposite end of the spectrum, Cavill Avenue’s Elsewhere Bar has created an extremely inviting, intimate setting in which to enjoy first class alternative music, and often draws a number of world class acts. In a similar vein, The Loft is a quaint bar serving French tapas and left-of-centre artists by up-and-coming Australian acts.

The Star Casino

Whether you are looking to play your poker face or simply people watch, The Star offers non-stop entertainment in a lavish setting.
The Broadbeach icon has been operating for over 25 years and is home to world-class stage shows, countless bars and clubs, six high quality restaurants, boutiques and a sea of gaming options. In October, the venue will host Peter Byrne’s “Hot August Night” concert with the 30 piece Sydney International Orchestra. The event celebrates the 45 year-old live album, performed by Neil Diamond, who has recently retired from live performances, making this your best chance to get close to the magic of his live performances.
October at The Star will also see the international theatre smash hit “The merchants of Bollywood” take to the stage. Having toured the world to rave reviews, the glittery spectacular brings 30 high energy performers to our shores from Mumbai – the home of Bollywood Cinema.
Five time Grammy award winner Dionne Warwick will also grace The Star stage this year, bringing her soulful sounds and top 100 singles to the venue in November.

Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre

Broadbeach’s $167 million Convention and Exhibition Centre is so much more than a conference, sporting and exhibition space … it is also a vibrant entertainment venue attracting world-class performers such a Pink, Mariah Carey and Powderfinger.
In early December, the venue will host the much-loved RockWiz team as they make their annual roadtrip! The RockWiz Revue will bring crowd favorites including plenty of comedy, quiz and wit to large, music-trivia loving crowds.

Home of the Arts (HOTA)

Those who prefer to be more passive audience members will find their fix at the Gold Coast’s premier cultural facility – Home of the Arts. Comprising of an arts theatre, gallery, two cinemas, a chapel, two intimate jazz and stand-up comedy locations and a café, this is a venue that offers something for every palette.
One of HOTA’s key current exhibitions is the Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Photography Award. As one of the nation’s most important contemporary photographic events, the exhibition honours Mrs Win Schubert AO and showcases the works of both established and emerging photographers as they examine diverse themes, practices and methods of creative expression. The Centre will also soon welcome one of Australia’s most talented comedians – Ahn Do. Sharing deep truths about his life’s joys and sorrows, Ahn’s December event is sure to attract large numbers and leave them feeling truly inspired.
